Using ab exercises to train your abdominals is a great way to build or tone up your stomach to create an impressive six pack!

Besides looking better on the beach, using abdominal exercises has a whole range of physical benefits such as an increased core stability. Abs routines are very useful for building up your core strength in your trunk which creates a greater stability for everyday activities such as sport and other weight training exercises.

Don't be fooled by the masses though..

Ab workouts although effective at strengthening the core muscles will not alone create a ripped six pack and the quest to obtain that perfect six pack is often shrouded in myths.

In reality, getting your abs to show is a lot more to do with correct nutritional intake as opposed to performing hundreds of crunches per ab workouts.

The abdominals muscle fibres are different from the chest and arms in that they can withstand very high endurance exercise without fatigue so it is extremely difficult to get them to grow! Instead of focusing on ab exercises,

focus on improving your diet plan by tweaking what, how much and when you eat until you start to see results.

Abdominal Myths

Doing hundreds of ab crunches will reveal my abs.
Not true unfortunately and probably the biggest myth surrounding abdominal exercises. Your abs will only show when your body fat percentage is low enough to reveal the muscles underneath. If you'd like to get a six pack then your focus should be spending time working on your diet plan and cardiovascular exercise.

Stomach exercises burns stomach fat.
This is another common myth that you can target individual areas of body fat through exercise. Also known as 'spot training' this concept has been proven not to be effective. Body fat is lowered throughout the body evenly so only when your body fat is low enough will your abs show.
