Golf Weight Training ProgramInterested in improving your golf swing?.. Or achieving a greater accuracy on your long shots? Then you may be interested to learn that a well designed golf weight training program can offer you a variety of positive advantages for enhancing your ability and for improving your overall health and fitness for golf. So what are the benefits? An increase in power for a greater swing of the club. A golf weight training program adds muscular strength which results in a much more powerful club swing allowing you to reach your full potential in the distance of your long shots. A better technique and posture is also gained. Whilst weight training is widely used to add muscular mass, strength and shape it also has a number of by-products such as bettering posture and erasing muscle imbalances which may limit good technique during a game. By incorporating these benefits into golf, you can see that a golf weight training program can be an extremely useful asset when trying to improve your skill level. Which muscles to train? Compared to many professionally played sports such as football and basketball, golf would not ordinarily be described as an overly energetic sport by comparison. For this image you may not imagine that there would be that many muscles to workout during a golf weight training program? The amount may surprise you.. There are in fact over 15 muscle groups used during a standard game of golf. Lets use the golf swing as an example. Starting at the top of the body we've got the shoulders (deltoids) which need to be made as strong as possible as they're usually the most likely to get strained or injured during the swing. They play an important part in obtaining the best position at the highest point of the backswing. Moving down we've got the chest (pectorals) and the upper back. These both have 2 important functions for the golf swing. They provide the power during the full rotation of the backswing and they allow and maintain stability, good posture and technique throughout the game. Next to the mid section of the body and to our core muscles. These are used in nearly every active sport that you can think of! Consisting of your abs, obliques and spinal muscles, these provide the stability in your stance are important for all spinal rotation throughout your swing and is a must when considering a golf weight training program. Last but not least we come to the lower body and the legs. For the golf swing, the quadriceps, hamstrings and calves all enable and support a good posture throughout the swing taking a huge amount of strain off the lower back to reduce the risk of injury. As you can see, virtually all of the major muscle groups in the body come into play at some point for such a quick action like the golf swing. At this point you may be wondering why you would even need a golf weight training program to improve this at all! Why not just do more golf swings, right? A good question and although over a period of time golf swings will of course strengthen these key muscles and also build on your technique and ability, weight training is one of the only ways you can increase your muscular strength and endurance quickly and safely whilst giving you the ability to 'iron out' any muscular imbalances that you may have.
